The 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 is now available to purchase from GoldClub Direct.

The American Gold Eagle series has grown to become the standard bullion coin investment. The series was introduced in 1986 in bullion and proof versions, but the fractional weights were only available in the bullion version. In 1987 and 1988, the US Mint grew the series by producing Proof Gold Eagles in fractional-ounce weights as well.

In 2021, the Gold Eagle received a major design refresh, updating security with an anti-counterfeit reeded edge and revealing an all-new reverse design. The refresh was not ready by the beginning of 2021, so midway through the year, they released a type 2 version of the 2021 Gold Eagle. The original reverse design featured on type 1 coins portrays a family of bald eagles by Miley Busiek. The obverse face remains the same.

All 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle coins contain exactly 1/2 oz of .9167 (22-karat) fine gold. The coin itself weighs more than 1/2 oz to ensure it contains 1/2 oz of gold. The 1/2 oz Gold Eagle has a face value of $25, however, it is not intended for circulation. The coin will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and ships in an individual plastic flip, a tube of 40 coins, or a sealed monster box of 1000 coins.

The obverse face of the type 2 Gold Eagle uses the design popularized by Augustus Saint-Gaudens on the 1907 $20 gold piece. Lady Liberty stands atop a rock with an olive branch in her left hand and a flaming torch in her right hand.

The reverse was newly designed by Jennie Norris. It portrays an up-close portrait of the American Bald Eagle in left-profile relief. Surrounding the bald eagle are inscriptions of identifying information about the coin.
