Royal Mint

The Royal Mint is the mint of the United Kingdom. The Royal Mint was formed under the rule of Alred the Great around 880 AD, making it one of the oldest active mints in the world. In 1279, the Royal Mint moved to a secure area inside the Tower of London. By 1282, the Trial of the Pyx was established to check for quality and accuracy, a process that still takes place today. When Britain began to decimalize their currency in 1971, the mint moved from London to a new facility in Llantrisant, Glamorgan, Wales, where it still operates today. In 2022, the Royal Mint revealed plans to build a new plant to recover precious metals from electronic waste.

The royal mint’s products have become popular worldwide, leading them to become the world’s leading export mint. Presently, the Royal Mint produces more than 3.3 billion coins and blanks each year for over 30 countries. Of British bullion products, the Britannia is the most popular. It is offered in gold, silver, and platinum varieties. Shop all of GoldClub Direct’s products from the Royal Mint here.
