What is “FV” or “face value”?
The face value of a coin is the legal currency value given by the issuing government.
This means the coin must be accepted as legal tender for that amount. Most collectible coins will have a face value, but the intrinsic value of the metal can be much higher. For example, the 1 oz American Gold Eagle has a face value of $50, but is selling for around $2,000 as of August 2022.
