The $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle coin is rich in history and value. These coins were minted over 100 years ago, and have become very rare coins. In 1933, the US Mint decided to collect gold coins in circulation to melt into gold bars for the nation’s gold reserves. This led pre-1933 coins to be very limited.
The US Mint issued these coins from Philadelphia, Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, and San Francisco. The Liberty Gold Double Eagle was designed by John B. Longacre. Longacre was inspired by images of royalty on Greco-Roman currency.
Each Liberty Double Eagle has a gold fineness of .90, making these coins intrinsically valuable and historically significant. Each coin contains .9675 Troy oz of pure gold and is in AU (About Circulated) condition.
The obverse face illustrates Lady Liberty in profile. Around the edge of the coin are 13 stars symbolizing the first 13 colonies. Around her head lays a crown engraved with the word, “Liberty”. The reverse features the Great Seal of the United States. The eagle can be seen wearing a shield on its chest and grasping onto an olive branch and arrows with its powerful talons. There are 3 reverse designs: the original; a version with an added scroll printed with “In God We Trust”; and a third with the denomination “Twenty Dollars” fully spelled out. GoldClub Direct cannot guarantee a specific version at the time of order placement.
