The Washington Quarter was introduced in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth, the first President of the United States. The original design, created by John Flanagan, features a majestic left-profile portrait of Washington on the obverse side. The reverse side displays a bald eagle gripping onto arrows with its talons.
The Washington Quarter contains 90% silver and 10% copper, making them a sought-after item for collectors and investors alike. Each $1 face value of these quarters contains approximately 0.715 Troy ounces of silver, adding to their value as a precious metal investment.
Here’s a fun fact: The Washington Quarter was selected through a public design competition. The competition, which drew over 100 submissions from American sculptors, was won by Laura Gardin Fraser’s design, however, the treasury said they never approved the design and picked Flanagan’s design instead. In 2022, the US Mint decided to switch the obverse to a new design, and Fraser’s design was picked.
In 1965, the United States Mint ceased producing the 90% Silver Washington Quarter and began using a copper-nickel alloy to reduce the cost of minting coins. As a result, these iconic quarters are now a rare find and highly coveted by collectors and investors.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a first-time investor, 90% Silver Washington Quarters offer a valuable opportunity to own a piece of American history and invest in precious metals. Add these beautiful coins to your collection today and enjoy a piece of America’s rich numismatic heritage!
