DETAILS

Looking for a piece of history to add to your coin collection? Look no further than the 90% Silver Mercury Dimes! These dimes were produced between the years 1916 and 1945 and are highly sought after by collectors due to their popularity.

The design of the Mercury Dime features a profile of Lady Liberty wearing a winged cap, which has led many to believe that she is the Roman god Mercury. On the reverse side, you’ll find an image of a fasces, which is a symbol of authority in ancient Rome.

One interesting fact about the Mercury Dime is that it wasn’t actually named after the Roman god Mercury. The designer of the coin, Adolph A. Weinman, intended for it to be called the “Winged Liberty Dime.” However, due to the resemblance of Lady Liberty to the Roman god Mercury, the name “Mercury Dime” stuck and has been used ever since.

The Mercury Dime was first issued in 1916, replacing the Barber Dime that had been in circulation since 1892. The Barber Dime had a similar design but was considered outdated by the United States Mint. The Mercury Dime was a fresh and modern take on the dime, and it quickly gained popularity among collectors and the general public.

The production of the Mercury Dime came to an end in 1945 with the United States Mint in favor of a new design featuring President Franklin D. Roosevelt on the obverse side.
