Description
GoldClub Direct is pleased to introduce the 40% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars, a valuable addition to any coin collector’s treasure trove! With each order, you’ll receive two coins to add up to a face value of $1, with random mintage years between 1965 and 1969. You will receive a total silver content of 0.2958 Troy oz of 40 percent pure silver. Coins will arrive in various conditions, with most being used in circulation.
But why 40% silver, you may ask? In 1965, the US Mint faced a silver shortage due to high demand and the depletion of its silver reserves. As a result, they began producing Kennedy Half Dollars with a reduced silver content of 40%, rather than the 90% silver content of earlier coins. This change in composition continued until 1970, when the silver content was further reduced to 0%.
Despite their lower silver content, these coins are still highly sought after by collectors for their historical significance and unique design. The Kennedy Half Dollar was introduced in 1964, just a year after the tragic assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The coin features a portrait of JFK on the obverse, created by Gilroy Roberts, and the presidential seal on the reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro.
These coins are also considered “junk silver”, a term used to describe US coins that were used in circulation and contained silver. Junk silver coins are often used as a hedge against inflation, and are a popular choice for investors and collectors alike. Their value is based on their silver content, rather than their face value or collectibility.
So whether you’re a coin collector or investor, the 40% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars are a must-have addition to your collection. With their unique history and design, these coins offer a glimpse into a bygone era and are a valuable investment for the future.
