Description
The Tudor Beasts Series focuses on heraldic beasts during the Tudor dynasty from 1485 to 1603. The Yale of Beaufort is one of 10 heraldic beasts that King Henry VIII had to guard the moat bridge leading to his royal residence at Hampden Court. The Yale was gifted to Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII, and has a body of a goat, the tail of a lion, and the tusks of a boar. In order to honor these guardians, the Royal Mint has launched a new bullion collection showcasing the Tudor Beasts, with the Yale of Beaufort releasing as the second coin of the series.
A chainmail surface animation background texture provides an additional layer of security, as the reverse depicts David Lawrence’s interpretation of the mythical Yale. An obverse portrait by Jody Clark shows Her Majesty The Queen in her fifth definitive coinage portrait.
