Description
The Royal Mint has officially launched the 2023 1 oz British Gold Britannia.
This release marks the end of Queen Elizabeth II being featured on British coinage. Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022, and British currency will face the first major transition in over 70 years. The initial 2023 British Gold Britannia coins will feature Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, but new editions featuring King Charles III will start production during the first quarter of 2023. This listing is the last time investors and collectors will be able to get their hands on a new bullion coin featuring Queen Elizabeth II.Â
The Gold Britannia series has been around for 37 years, and every coin has featured Queen Elizabeth II. This is a unique opportunity to own a part of British history. This Britannia will be known as the last to feature Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch.Â
The obverse face of the 2023 1 oz British Gold Britannia will present the fifth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This was designed by Jody Clark in 2015. Her Majesty can be seen in right-profile relief, displaying the George IV State Diadem crown.Â
The reverse features a modern depiction of Britannia, originally designed in 1987 by Philip Nathan. Britannia is seen standing proud atop a rock, wielding a trident in her right hand and holding a Union Jack shield and an olive branch in her left hand.
The Britannia also contains four security elements to ensure you receive a legitimate product. These features include a moving wave texture in the reverse background, a latent security image of a padlock, tincture lines on the shield, and micro-text engraving.Â
Each coin will contain 1 troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition. They will ship to you in individual protective flips, acrylic tubes of 10 coins, or a box of 100 coins (10 tubes).
