The all-new 2023 British Gold Britannia has officially been released by the Royal Mint! This coin now features the first edition effigy of His Majesty, King Charles III.
This release marks the beginning of King Charles III being featured on British coinage. With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, British currency faced the first major transition in over 70 years with King Charles III ascending to the throne. The initial 2023 British Gold Britannia coins featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, but this new edition featuring King Charles III is now being produced. This coin will be highly sought-after by both investors and collectors for its important significance in the history of British coinage.
The Gold Britannia series has been produced for 37 years, and up to now, every coin has featured Queen Elizabeth II. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of British history, and own the very first Britannias to feature King Charles III.
Each coin will contain 1 troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition. They will ship to you in individual protective flips or capsules, acrylic tubes of 10 coins, or a box of 100 coins (10 tubes).
The obverse face of the 2023 1 oz British Gold Britannia presents the first coinage portrait of King Charles III. Martin Jennings designed this effigy in left-profile relief and features the King without a crown.
The reverse features a modern depiction of Britannia, originally designed in 1987 by Philip Nathan. Britannia is seen standing proud atop a rock, with a trident in her right hand and a Union Jack shield and an olive branch in her left hand.
The Britannia also contains four advanced security elements to ensure the coin’s legitimacy. These features include a moving wave texture in the reverse background, a latent security image of a padlock, tincture lines on the shield, and micro-text engraving.Â
