This coin is part of the new Tudor Beasts Series, a continuation of the vastly popular Queen’s Beasts Series that ran from 2016-2021. This new collection pays homage to the Tudor Dynasty, showcasing designs of the Royal Arms, crests, and various heraldic beasts, all depicted in both Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof conditions. The collection encompasses a variety of denominations, including 1 oz gold coins, 2 oz and 10 oz silver coins, and a 1 oz platinum coin.
One of the featured beasts in this collection is the Yale of Beaufort, an ancient heraldic creature that was said to guard the moat bridge leading to King Henry VIII’s residence at Hampden Court. The Yale is depicted as having the body of a goat, the tail of a lion, and the tusks of a boar. In honor of these guardians, the Royal Mint has launched this new bullion collection showcasing the various Tudor Beasts, with the Yale of Beaufort being the second coin in the series.
The coin’s reverse is adorned with a dynamic animation of a chainmail surface texture, adding an extra layer of security. The reverse also features David Lawrence’s interpretation of the mythical Yale. The coin’s obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty The Queen, created by Jody Clark, in her fifth definitive coinage portrait.
The 1/4 oz 2023 British Gold Royal Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort Coin, struck in .9999 gold, is a stunning addition to any collection. It is also available in fine platinum and silver editions.
