The obverse of the 2023 ¼ oz British Gold Britannia coin displays the first coinage portrait of King Charles III, expertly crafted by Martin Jennings in left-profile relief and depicting the King without a crown. A short release of 2023 Britannias featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, while Martin Jennings created the bust.

The reverse bears a modern depiction of Britannia, as originally designed in 1987 by Philip Nathan. This figure has represented Britain for centuries and is instantly recognizable worldwide. Britannia is depicted standing tall on a rock, holding a trident in her right hand and a Union Jack shield and an olive branch in her left.

Furthermore, the Britannia coin also includes four advanced security elements to make it one of the most visually secure coins in the world.
