The 2023 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle has been growing in popularity in recent years. Investors looking for a lower entry point for a gold coin have turned to the 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle.
In 1986, the US Mint introduced the Gold Eagle series to compete with other sovereign mint coin programs. The bullion Gold Eagles were offered in four different weights, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz. Each coin soon grew to become among the most popular bullion coins for their respective weights.
In 2021, the series was refreshed for the first time with an all-new reverse design. In addition to the new reverse face, many security features were added to secure the authenticity of the coin. The obverse design remained the same.
The obverse side of the coin displays the iconic Lady Liberty. This design is instantly recognizable on U.S. coins. Lady Liberty is depicted front-facing, standing atop a rock on the outskirts of Washington D.C. The capitol building is seen in the background, along with sun rays and a rim of stars. The design was popularized by the 1907 Augustus Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece.
The reverse face features a detailed depiction of an American Bald Eagle, designed by Jennie Norris. The Bald Eagle’s head is shown in left-profile relief, showing the majesty, up-close physical features of an American Bald Eagle.
Each 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle contains 1/4 oz of pure gold with a 91.67% purity. It has a face value of $10, legally backed by the United States government. The coins will ship in individual plastic flips, tubes of 40 coins, or monster boxes of 2000 coins.
