Description
The Royal Mint has officially launched the 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia, marking the end of an era as it will be the last coin to feature Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch. This release comes following the passing of Her Majesty in September 2022, signaling the first major transition in British coinage in over 70 years. Initial 2023 British Gold Britannia coins will bear the fifth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark in 2015 and featuring the George IV State Diadem crown.
However, new editions featuring King Charles III will commence production during the first quarter of 2023. This represents a unique opportunity for investors and collectors to own a piece of British history, as the Gold Britannia series has been in circulation for 37 years and has always featured Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse of the coin presents a modern depiction of Britannia, originally designed by Philip Nathan in 1987. Britannia is depicted standing atop a rock, holding a trident and a Union Jack shield, and clutching an olive branch in her left hand. The coin also boasts various security features, including a moving wave texture on the reverse background, a latent security image of a padlock, tincture lines on the shield and micro-text engraving, to ensure authenticity.
Each coin contains 1 troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition and will be shipped to you in individual protective flips, acrylic tubes of 25 coins or a box of 500 coins. This is a momentous occasion in British coinage history, and the 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia will be a prized possession for any collector or investor.
