Saint Helena is a small British overseas territory in the Atlantic Ocean. In 2021, St Helena released a new six-coin series highlighting the 6 virtues of Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria was a respected Queen and adored by many. The 2022 5 oz St Helena Silver Queen’s Virtues – Victory coin is now available from GoldClub Direct.
To honor her reign, a memorial was created in London, the first to show the 6 Queen’s Virtues. The virtues include Victory, Courage, Constancy, Justice, Truth, and Charity. Each virtue was personified in a statue at the Victoria Memorial Monument. The monument was designed by Sir Thomas Brock in 1904 and unveiled in 1911, but was not completely finished until 1924.
The first virtue to be released in this series was Victory. The Victory Angel tops the monument in London. The other five virtues will continue to be released over the next few years.
Each 2022 5 oz St Helena Silver Queen’s Virtues coin will contain 5 Troy oz of .999 fine silver. The coin will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins will ship in protective capsules and multiples of 10 will ship in plastic sheets. The coin has a face value of 5 St Helena Pounds.
Because Saint Helena is part of the British Commonwealth, all coinage features royalty on the obverse face. The 2022 Queen’s Virtues displays an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait is the third-generation effigy used by the Royal Mint, designed by Raphael Maklouf in 1985. The Queen is in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown.
The reverse face portrays the allegorical figure of Victory. Victory is the central statue of the Victoria Memorial Monument. This personification shows the Victory Angel in left-profile relief. Victory is clothed in a robe with large wings attached to her back. She holds a palm branch in her left hand. Surround the figure of Victory is the inscription “VICTORY · THROUGH · HARMONY” and the mint mark of the East India Company, the manufacturer of the coin.
