DETAILS

The South African Krugerrand was the first modern bullion coin series, being introduced in 1967, however, it was only available in gold coins. The Krugerrand quickly spread to be the most-owned bullion coin in the world, and soon, many countries followed suit.

It was not until 2017, the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand, that the South African Mint created a silver version of the Krugerrand. This coin also garnered national attention, so the South African Mint decided to make it an annual release.

Each 1 oz Soth African Krugerrand contains 1 Troy oz of .999 silver. The coins will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, packaged in individual plastic flips, tubes of 25 coins, or monster boxes of 500 coins. The Silver Krugerrand has a face value of 1 rand, issued by the South African government.

The obverse field displays a portrait of Paul Kruger, a prominent president of the South African Republic. He is seen in left-profile relief. Surrounding the effigy are inscriptions of South Africa in both English and Afrikaans.

The reverse field features a prancing springbok antelope. The springbok is the national animal of South Africa and has been featured on many of its coins. Identifying characteristics of the coin are also included on the reverse face.
