The Royal Mint of Spain, or Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de la Moneda, entered the gold bullion coin market in 2021 with the release of the Iberian Lynx Gold Coin. The release was extremely well received by both investors and collectors. For this reason, The Royal Mint of Spain expanded its product line to include a Spanish Bull Gold Coin. The Fighting Bull, or Toro Bravo, has strong ties to Spanish culture and history. The Fighting Bull represents the bravery and strength of the Spanish people. Bullfighting is believed to have been practiced since the 8th century AD, with the first official bullfight in 1158 in honor of King Alfonso VIII’s coronation. Although modern bullfighting is different than what it was in the past, its legacy remains an integral part of Spanish society.
Each 2022 1 oz Spanish Gold Bull contains 1 oz of .9999 fine gold and will arrive in Reverse Proof condition, a mirror-like finish. Every coin will be protected during shipment in individual capsules and will be insured against loss or damage during the shipping process by GoldClub Direct. This release is a limited mintage of only 15,000 coins. This leads to the possibility of being a major collectible item in future years. The coin is also considered legal tender in Spain, with a face value of 1.5 Euros.
The obverse side displays a prominent image featured on many Spanish empire coins that circulated around the world for centuries. Two hemispheres of the globe are placed under a royal crown with the large Pillars of Hercules on each side with the Latin motto, “PLUS VLTRA” wrapped around each pillar. The specifications of the coin are seen at the bottom of the obverse face.
The reverse side depicts a Toro Bravo in right profile relief. The Fighting Bull stands proud as it trots across a field. Also included on the reverse are inscriptions of “1.5 Euro,” “TORO,” “2022,” and the mint mark of the Royal Mint of Spain.
