Saint Helena is a small British overseas territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. In order to produce coinage for the country, they authorized private mints to help with the manufacturing. The East India Company took control of The Queen’s Virtues coin series. The collection quickly grew in popularity and expanded to include versions in gold, silver, and platinum.
There are six of the Queen’s Virtues: Victory, Courage, Constancy, Justice, Truth, and Charity. All six were first featured on the Victoria Memorial Monument in honor of Queen Victoria. Sir Thomas Brock designed the monument in 1901 and unveiled it in 1911, but it was not fully completed until 1924.
Truth is the second virtue design of the Queen’s Virtues series. The East India Company takes its inspiration from the glad-winged personified figure of Truth. Truth can be seen holding a mirror to reveal the truth with her right hand, and protecting a child holding a palm frond with her left hand.
The obverse face features Queen Elizabeth II in her third-generation effigy designed by Raphael Maklouf in 1985. Her Majesty can be seen wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown as well as a pearl necklace and earrings. Below her neck, the designer’s initials, RDM, are inscribed. Surrounding the monarch, “ST. HELENA · QUEEN ELIZABETH II · 2022 · £100 · ONE OUNCE .9999 GOLD”.
The reverse design depicts the personification of Truth. Surrounding the Truth Angel is the inscription “TRUTH · CONQUERS · ALL” and the mint mark, EIC. The proof version’s inscription reads “Vincit Omnia Veritas”, the Latin translation of Truth Conquers All. The background includes an intricate geometric pattern.
The 2022 1 oz Saint Helena Gold Queen’s Virtues – Truth coin will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each gold coin will arrive in a protective capsule.
