The 1 oz British Gold Britannia is the flagship product from the Royal Mint, and the 2022 Gold Britannia is now available to order from GoldClub Direct.
The Gold Britannia series was introduced in 1987, marking the 2022 coin as the 36th year of issue of the series. The Britannia quickly gained international demand, making it one of Europe’s most coveted bullion coins. A proof Silver Britannia was released in 1997 and a bullion Silver Britannia was released in 1998. In 2013, the Royal Mint made a large change to the Gold Britannia, changing its purity from .9167 (22-karat) to .9999 (24-karat).
Then, in 2021, the Royal Mint added four advanced security measures to protect against counterfeit coins. These measures include a wave texture motion that changes based on your angle, a latent image that changes from a padlock to a trident, tincture lines on the Union Jack shield, and micro-text engravings. This has led Britannia to be one of the most advanced bullion coins on the market.
2022 1 oz British Gold Britannia coins will ship to you in individual plastic flips, tubes of 10 coins, or a box of 100 coins. Each coin contains 1 oz of .9999 pure gold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
On the obverse face is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark in 2015. The Queen is in right-profile relief at the age of 89, wearing the George IV State Diadem. This is the final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to grace British coinage.
On the reverse face is a depiction of Britannia, the protector of Britain. The design was created by Philip Nathan in 1987 for the introduction of the series. Britannia is seen holding the Union Jack shield and an olive branch in one hand, and a large trident in the other.
