Description
2021 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 coins are the smallest gold coins from the US Mint and are now available to purchase from GoldClub Direct.
The American Gold Eagle series has become a staple investment for investors around the world. In 1986, the series was introduced in bullion and proof versions, but the fractional-ounce weights (1/10, 1/4, 1/2) were only available in the bullion version. Fractional-ounce Proof Gold Eagles were introduced in 1987 and 1988.
In 2021, the Gold Eagle program received its first design refresh since it was released. The US Mint added an anti-counterfeit reeded edge variation, making it harder to produce counterfeit coins. The refresh also included a completely new reverse, designed by Jennie Norris. The obverse face remained the same. The refresh was not ready for production by the beginning of 2021, so midway through the year, they released a type 2 version of the 2021 Gold Eagle. The original reverse design featured on type 1 coins portrays a family of bald eagles by Miley Busiek.
Each 2021 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle contains 1/10 oz of .9167 (22-karat) fine gold. The total weight of the coin is greater than 1/10 oz to ensure the coin has 1/10 oz of pure gold. The 1/10 oz Gold Eagle has a face value of $5, however, it is not intended for circulation. The value of the coin is much higher than its face value. Each coin will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and ships in an individual plastic flip, a tube of 50 coins, or a sealed monster box of 5000 coins.
The obverse of the 2021 1/10 oz Gold Eagle Type 2 uses the Augustus Saint-Gaudens design originally featured on the 1907 $20 gold piece. Lady Liberty stands proudly atop a rock with an olive branch in her left hand and a flaming torch in her right hand.
The newly-designed Jennie Norris reverse portrays a detailed portrait of the American Bald Eagle in left-profile relief. Surrounding the bald eagle are engravings of “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” its national mottos, and the specifications of the coin.
