Description
The 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda, introduced in 1982, was the third modern gold bullion coin to come to the market after the South African Gold Krugerrand in 1967 and the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf in 1979. 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins were released in 1982, with a 1/20 oz coin being released in 1983. Being one of the first bullion coins has helped bring the Panda to the international stage. Investors and collectors around the world demand this coin year after year.Â
The Chinese Gold Panda is the official gold bullion coin of the People’s Republic of China. Every Panda from this listing contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold. These coins will arrive in varied conditions with protective packaging, although they will not be in the original packaging directly from the mint. This listing is also for random years of issue. GoldClub Direct warehouse staff will pick the specific coins during the fulfillment process, so we are unable to guarantee a specific mintage date.
In 2016, the Chinese Mint made a major adjustment to the Chinese Panda series by changing the weight to grams instead of ounces. All 5 Chinese Gold Pandas and 1 Chinese Silver Panda changed to this system. This listing will only include pre-2016 1 oz Chinese Gold Pandas.
The obverse field portrays an image of a Chinese giant panda. Every year the design of the panda changes, making each year of release unique. Please note it is possible to receive several coins with the same date mark and reverse design. The background also features bamboo, the panda’s favorite snack.
The reverse face of the 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda depicts an image of The Hall of Prayer of Abundant Harvests at the Temple of Heaven, found in south-central Beijing.
