Description
The 1 oz American Gold Buffalo was introduced in 2006 to compete with other countries’ 24-karat gold bullion programs. This marked the first time the US Mint created a .9999 pure gold coin. The American Gold Buffalo is now released annually and has become a popular investment choice for people around the world. GoldClub Direct is pleased to offer the 1 oz American Gold Buffalo (Random Year) to its customers.
Before the American Gold Buffalo was introduced, the US Mint’s only gold bullion program was the American Gold Eagle. Although the Gold Eagle is still one of the most popular coins worldwide, it was only 22 karat (91.67 % pure gold). The 24-karat Gold Buffalo allows the US Mint to reach a wider audience.
The 1 oz American Gold Buffalo will ship in individual plastic flips, tubes of 20 coins, or monster boxes of 500 coins. This listing is for random year Gold Buffalos, meaning that you may receive a coin from any year it has been issued. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee which year of issue you will receive as our staff picks each coin from our inventory during the fulfillment process. All coins from this listing come from the secondary market, which means slight wear is possible on the coins. This does not affect the intrinsic value of the coin.
The obverse face of the Gold Buffalo features a left-profile portrait of an Indigenous leader. This design was originally created by James Earle Fraser for the 1913 Indian Head Nickel. Fraser was said to have combined the facial features of real-life Native American elders to create this design. The engravings “Liberty” and the year of issue are also seen on this face.
The reverse was also designed by James Earle Fraser for the 1913 Indian Head Nickel and displays a massive American Buffalo. Fraser took inspiration from Black Diamond, an American Buffalo who lived at the Central Park Zoo during his life. Engravings of “United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, “In God We Trust”, and the specifications of the coin surround the buffalo.
